EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED COUPLES THERAPY

Creating positive change in relationships

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a structured approach based in attachment theory.

EFCT is experiential in nature and works to engage with not only our emotions,

but to explore deeper views of our self and others and our fears and longings in relationships.

Initially the work is focused on more clearly understanding

the cycle of our communication and what drives our behaviour.

From here we explore underlying experiences, often from childhood,

that have shaped us to act the way we do.

This fosters empathy and a softening toward each other, the first step to creating change.

It is effective with heterosexual or diverse couples and other relationships, such as parent/child or siblings.

It has been found to be highly effective in resolving infidelity and other forgiveness issues.

We will have an initial session with both partners, then an individual session each,

then we will return to working as a couple from then on.

Sessions ideally are conducted weekly for the work to be most effective.
